To be baptised into Christ is to be baptised into His person. Baptised into His person we are baptised into His person we are baptised into His death and resurrection and the Trinitarian Communion that is God.
OUR PERSONAL GOD
This is baptism into union with Him – never baptism into Christianity. You have a oneness with Christ that is of God in you. The inheritance of the cross is incarnation – the weaving of the self into God and God into us. This is the achievement of the divine enterprise. It’s spirit and it is personal.
‘For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation’ 2 Cor 5.19 NIV.
There are places where you can graduate with a theological degree that is not the theology of the Christian Church. The truth of Jesus, the apostles, Church Fathers and Reformers has been subverted by time, lassitude and vested interests. Your life in Christ/in God is much simpler than is often made out. ABSORBED INTO GOD’S UNION The message of reconciliation is much more than forgiveness and forensic acquittal. It is the enfolding of humanity in the triune God. We have been baptised into Christ’s baptism as Thomas Torrance explains. “The Baptism with which he was baptised was a Baptism of vicarious repentance for us which he brought to its completion on the Cross where he was stricken and smitten of God for our sakes, by whose stripes we are healed. He had laid hold of us even in the depths of our human soul and mind where we are alienated from God and are at enmity with him,and altered them from within and from below in radical and complete metanoia, a repentant restructuring of our carnal mind, as St Paul called it, and a converting of it into a spiritual mind.” (1) Christ’s life is your life.
KINDOM AGENCY We can be saved without being agents of Christ’s Kingdom. Not of the kingdom because our Christ is false, and our doctrine is bent. You can flourish in authority not as the scribe - as genuine Kingdom agents. It's better to have the mind of Christ than the mind of religion. It has a compulsion to make oneness with Christ something that we manufacture and earn by stuff we believe and do. But union with God is a gift and you already have it. Obedience is living in what we have been given.
Not for nothing did Paul call attempts at modified gospels dung (Phil 3.8). One might be saved by being a Christian but one is not made a Kingdom Agent overflowing with spirit and life by being a Christian. This happens by Christ as you. Incarnated with the trinity we are agents of New Creation Life. (1)Thomas Torrance, The Mediation of Christ, p85,
